The Association of Swiss Professional Numismatists has decided to support the operation "Christmas in a Shoebox" with a donation and collection.
The operation brings Christmas presents that fit inside a shoebox to the poorest children in Moldavia. These are children who would otherwise never receive any presents Christmas or not. The money that is collected from our Association is used to prepare such gift boxes and also to pay into a fund for educating young Moldavian persons in a trade such as carpentry or tailoring.
This charity organisation has been well known in Germany for a long time and in Switzerland only since a couple of years. Normally these boxes are prepared by private persons and delivered to a collection centre near their home community by November 15th. Then they are sent by truck accompanied by responsible persons from Switzerland to Moldavia where they are distributed under responsible authority to the poorest children.
The wife of our secretary general Margret Neumann-Lysloff, has declared herself willing to prepare the gift boxes with the collected funds, purchasing the gifts and packaging them. She is also a collection centre in her community.
The association hopes that its members will support this activity and will inform you of further developments. More information can be found on the internet under www.weihnachten-im-schuhkarton.ch.
